I just woke up somewhere between Hell and Columbia, SC. I think I prefer Hell. Another night and another watered down PromiseRingisthereasonforaSunnyday band on stage. Oops, I mean on the floor. Complacency is the enemy. It exists in every microcosm of society. It's ignited by mediocrity and fueled by acceptance. It drives me closer to insanity every night. I fall quietly back to sleep only to find myself back home watching TV. I switch to MTV during a commercial break from "Quincy." It's Korn again. I ask myself, "does the bass player's hand ever hurt from all that slapping? I wish he would stop jumping around and just play. Should we give ourselves funny names and even funnier haircuts?" Oh well. My 39 Oasis posters start to close in on me. No I'm not gay, I'm 26, unemployed, have 39 Oasis posters and I'm making fun of Korn! I don't think I can make fun of anyone, but what the hell, they do have funny haircuts. I go to the stereo and put on "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" by Genesis. Almost like a knee jerk reaction I begin to write. I run for my guitar and tape recorder. Another song and another excuse to go on the road, lose another job and continue to feel socially inferior to my girlfriend, who makes way too much money. I think out loud about what an arrogant, pretentious fuck I am for an unemployed 26 year-old "musician". "Yep I sure am!" I think to myself.
